Demi Rose Mawby haunts me. Who is this woman? What does she do? DailyMail’s grip on modern journalism is undeniable. It’s read, referenced and cited by everyone. I see it as a litmus test for what the lowest bottom denominator (as cold as that sounds) sees in pop culture. It’s SnapChat presence has been consistent for the last eight years. Every day it posts a 50-some page story about the previous’ days news in politics, culture and social media. Centred in – I want to say 90 percent of these issues – is Demi Rose Mawby. A British person, she has been in almost every issue for the last eight years.
I say British person because I don’t know what she does. She models, on occasion. On occasion, she promotes. She got an OnlyFans recently. But, before her sponsorships and occasional runway show, before OnlyFans was in motion, her occupation was hazy – yet she was still a central figure to DailyMail’s publication. And, while yes, I think presence alone in DailyMail does not a person of interest make, Mawby’s insistent presence in the magazine without explanation of who she is, is cause for concern.
The stories featuring Mawby are varied and thrilling. On Monday, she’s at a beach in Ibiza. On Wednesday, she’s scantily-clad in San Cabo. The next week she’s riding a horse in Tulum, wearing almost nothing. She is never covered, she is constantly hyper-sexed. Her measurements look like they’re about 42-24-45. She has a minxy smile in every picture. Sometimes she dyes her hair a hue lighter or darker and she gets an article. Others, she just posts a selfie.
So, Who Is Demi Rose Mawby?
When she was a teenager, Demi frequented MySpace. She became popular, and the following from MySpace followed her to Instagram. From Instagram, she gained an even bigger following. At the same time, she became represented by Girls Management, a London talent agency. She began doing lingerie modelling and printed her own calendar. After, she got the attention of Taz’s Angels. Taz’s Angels broadcasts as a mentorship program for young women with the goal of helping them start their career. But, this descriptor has changed based on who is answering. Other women in Taz’s Angels said it’s a collective of “sister-wives” who are Taz’s partners. It’s located in Miami. Taz and the girls are often associated with professional sport stars, rappers, singers or other celebrities. If there is a party in Miami, Taz’s Angels would be there.
Taz’s Angels faced an FBI probe in 2016 on prostitution and human trafficking charges. Allegedly, Taz and his angels targetted underaged girls with the intention of recruiting them into a prostitution ring. Shortly after this, Demi left Miami and returned to the UK. Years prior to this, when she was still in school, her mother had a stroke and became disabled. Demi became her mother’s caregiver. In 2018, her father died from cancer and a few months later her mother died of a stomach infection.
When Kylie Jenner and Tyga broke up in 2016, Tyga and Mawby dated. Though she was lightly known for her Instagram and association with Taz’s angels, this put her on the map. Today, people today still call her “Tyga’s ex.” She made headlines as a Kylie-lookalike and Britain’s version of Kim Kardashian due to her figure. From there she walked the Miami Swim Week Fashion Show for Oh Polly and has done various other lingerie and swimsuit collaborations.
Where’s Demi Heading?
Demi Rose Mawby amassed 17 million followers on Instagram. Most of her pictures are of her at various beaches or other vacation hot-spots. She’s on permanent vacation. Obviously, there are other beautiful and bountiful women who are up to the same things. Dozens of influencers do stuff more interesting than going to the beach. Others could potentially draw more eyes than Mawby. Especially considering the content of the Mawby stories haven’t progressed beyond being curvaceous and showing it. Countless influencers just as beautiful have released dramatic vlogs that could bring DailyMail and the influencer views. So why is Mawby promoted constantly despite repetitive content?
Though there is no confirmed source on this, there have been comments. Some say Mawby is dating someone at the DailyMail. From there, they write articles about her in exchange for contact. Others say that the rumours of Taz’s Angels being an escort service is true and she still exchanges sexual services for DailyMail articles. Mawby has consistently denied that Taz’s Angels had anything to do with prostitution. She insists she wasn’t involved with anything of that nature. Other commenters speculate she pays the DailyMail to promote her. People say that DailyMail prints articles for pay.
I think, if she is paying (in one way or another) the DailyMail to publish articles about her, it’s obviously working. A massive inside joke online, everyone sees her but nobody has any clue who she is. When I say “DailyMail SnapChat Story girl” you know who I’m talking about, but you have no clue who she is. She and DailyMail are synonymous Her brand recognition is fantastic. And, she’s always on vacation, so she’s clearly doing something right.
I’ve also noticed a bit of an air of disgust of judgement related to comments about her possibly dating/being sexual with men at DailyMail in exchange for posts. I really don’t think it’s anyone’s place to judge her. Beyond that, in sex-for-benefit dynamics, always disproportionate blame goes on the woman giving and not the man demanding favors. I think at best, the DailyMail SnapChat guy who might or might not be accepting favors for coverage has zero integrity as an editor. He clearly does not care about the quality or content of the magazine, not in the least to oomph up Mawby’s stories or explain who she is. I can understand how Mawby wants exposure and how DailyMail gives a platform. Though, I can’t understand the insatiable urge to throw a publication under the bus for sex.
I think Mawby is either in on the joke – she thinks her seemingly pointless hyper prevalence in an online news magazine is funny – or she doesn’t care. Regardless, we know who she is. She has been paid seemingly very well in exchange for her inexplicable presence.
