Your phone screen is no longer the only place where you’ll find TikTok stars. Your favorite TikTok personalities are breaking into the entertainment industry, whether we like it or not. From movies to albums, the app known for dance trends is now the number one producer of new talent. Here’s a breakdown of some of the biggest projects these big names are working on.
I need a bad b****, Addison Rae. Addison Rae has been a busy woman this past year. Between her friendship with Kourtney Kardashian, dating drama with Bryce Hall, and upcoming projects her name seems to grace almost every headline.
Addison is an actress. Skipping the struggling actor stage Addison is starting off her career with a bang. She is starring in the Netflix film He’s All That, a remake of the 90s romantic comedy classic She’s All That. Rae will be playing the female lead.
Her grab at celebrity status doesn’t stop there however, Addison is also trying to break into the music industry. She released a single earlier this year titled “Obsessed” and says that a full debut album is coming “super soon.”
Is Addison Rae a triple threat? Between her TikTok dancing, an upcoming movie, and music career, she just might be.
Dixie D’Amelio is a busy young woman. While others have basked in their TikTok stardom, Dixie saw it as an opportunity. She is using her virality as a stepping stone to a career in the entertainment industry.
Dixie has created a commercially successful music career with multiple of her singles being played on the radio. Her songs Be Happy and One Day received lots of attention and reached virality on TikTok. Recently, she released Fuckboy, which has an accompanying music video. So far, all her singles have been nonalbum singles.
She has dabbled in acting, starring in the Brat TV show Attaway General in 2020. Now, she plans to go unscripted. Dixie and her family are starring in their own reality television show on Hulu called The D’Amelio Family. The show does not have an official release date but is believed to premiere sometime in 2021.
Charli D’Amelio is the face of TikTok. Charli, the younger sister of Dixie D’Amelio, is the most followed person on the app and is a true testament to the success that is possible from the app. Her influencer status has led to her getting sponsorships and partnerships with huge companies such as Dunkin Donuts.
Charli hasn’t really ventured outside of her TikTok dancing too much, but all that is about to change. Her new reality show The D’Amelio family is set to give a more intimate and personal look at the inner workings of TikTok’s first family. While other TikTokers have ventured into different fields Charli has stayed focus on TikTok and this is the first major project outside of the app for her.
The Hype House
The Hype House is moving from TikTok to Netflix. That’s right if you haven’t heard, the Hype House has secured a reality television show that will be streamed on Netflix. The Hype House is a collective of TikTok personalities and influencers and the name of the shared house where some of the creators lived. The show is set to star Kouvr Annon, Nikita Dragun, Sienna Mae Gomez, Chase Hudson, Larri Merritt, Thomas Petrou, Alex Warren, and Jack Wright.
What Does This Mean?
TikTok isn’t the first social media platform that has launched young creator’s careers and it probably won’t be the last. However, it is the first to have an intense level of media coverage to the point where these young influencers are recognized by almost everyone. TikTok is helping to legitimize online creators as celebrities.
One cannot help but draw parallels to the Vine stars that quickly rose to fame in the early 2010s. While some, such as Shawn Mendes, were able to find long-term success most died out quickly. Their fifteen minutes of fame either completely died out, led them to mildly successful mid-tier YouTube channels, or became C-list actors. Will this generation of online stars suffer the same fate? Is the Hype House the new Magcon? There’s no way of telling, but it will definitely be interesting to watch unfold.
