The company PLBY that owns the sensational brand, Playboy, recently launched a creator-led website. Whose goal is to provide “leading voices with a safe platform for creative expression.”
The name of the website is CENTERFOLD. Touché!
In mid-October, PLBY announced that it will acquire Dream, a social-content platform that will allow creators on CENTERFOLD to interact directly with their fans. PLBY plans to acquire 100% equity of the company that owns Dream. PLBY intends to buy the platform, Dream, for approximately $30 million. The group stock will pay the sum by the end of 2021.
The website launch was to take place in the second half of 2022. However, the company sped it up to the fourth quarter of this year instead.
The Dream platform allows creators to engage in safe transactions involving subscription-based content sharing. Sounds familiar? The idea of CENTERFOLD is similar to that of Onlyfans. Creators will be able to share and sell their content directly to their audience.
Mike Dow and Mike Berman, the cofounders of Dream, say they couldn’t be more excited to enter into this partnership with Playboy. Which is the original platform for creative self-expression and sex positivity.
What is PLBY?
Playboy magazine is the most renowned product of the company. It has been a pop-culture sensation ever since it was founded by Hugh Hefner in 1953. The name CENTERFOLD of the to-be launched website, comes from the popular feature photoshoot of a leading model in every issue.
The company’s long-standing legacy of promoting “dedicated to creative freedom, artistic expression, and sex positivity” will be excecuted in this new website. CENTERFOLD will not only just provide a platform to share/sell content. It also aims to “arm creators with tools for multiple formats of content creation. In addition to direct fan interaction, and provide access to Playboy’s vast audience and differentiated content, digital and merchandise capabilities.”
This means there will be ways for creators to promote their brands. By merchandising their own products and give access to Playboy’s huge audience.
Partnership
Although, it is unclear who and when you can join CENTERFOLD as a creator. The two companies, Dream and PLBY is working together on a mission to provide an innovative toolkit and safe service for the “world’s top creators.”
