Working as a beauty blogger isn’t easy. You have to maintain creativity and grow your following, but you also have to make a living. In New York City, it’s standard practice to work in a restaurant or at a bar to make some cash while you focus on your creative pursuits. But working odd jobs can cause you to burn out faster. In an ideal world, you could turn your blog into a business. Beauty bloggers are a dime a dozen, but I’m going to share some tips with you on how you can turn your creative passions into a real career. Read on to learn some helpful tips to avoid burnout, get your content noticed, and get paid.
Build Your Brand
Before you can even start your blog, you need to think about what your brand is. Everyone I talk to in New York mentions their personal brand at some point. I hate that this is the world we live in, but unfortunately, first impressions are everything. When people visit your blog, they want to see something streamlined and easy to navigate, but they also want to see original content that they can’t find anywhere else. That’s where your brand comes in. As a beauty blogger, Michelle Wong built her brand on science. You can find useful skincare tips and the science behind products on her social media page. She combines her knowledge of medicine and chemistry with current beauty industry trends, and she stands out because of that. Find out what your niche is and go from there. You don’t have to reinvent the wheel, but you do have to find something you’re good at and find a way to transfer that into your beauty blog.
Pick a Theme
Along with deciding what your brand is, you have to find a visual theme for your blog that appeals to users. This is closely tied with your brand in general. As a beauty blogger, you want your followers to know that you care about aesthetics. Picking a theme shows that you pay attention to detail. Plus, it looks professional. I recommend building your blog through WordPress because it’s easy to use, and there are various themes to choose from.
Earn Commission Via Affiliate Marketing
There are tons of businesses and brands that will pay you to promote products on your page. If you link out to certain products and someone purchases something from that link, that means money in your pocket. Affiliate earnings can take a while to reach substantial amounts of money, so you must be patient. Plus, you really only earn money from affiliate marketing if your blog has a ton of traffic. Even if you follow all of the tips I’ve listed, it can take a while before you see many people visiting your page. Patience is key when it comes to blogging. The longer you stick with it, the more you will learn about gaining a following online.
Collaborate With Others
Other beauty bloggers are not your enemy; they are your friends! The internet can be a tricky and volatile place, so you’re going to want an online network that you can rely on as you try and make a living as a beauty blogger. If you try and do everything yourself, you’re going to become overwhelmed and burn out very quickly. Trust me; I’ve been there. Reach out to other bloggers and ask them if they want to collaborate. You could do a weekly post highlighting other creators. This can increase traffic to your site as people see you’re willing to go above and beyond to bring in original content.
Those are my tips on how to earn money from your beauty blog. Have you tried blogging? I want to hear your thoughts in the comments!
