There’s a new challenge taking over TikTok. Say your goodbyes to the infamous but now relatively irrelevant TikTok Challenges of 2020, Don’t Rush Challenge, and the Savage Challenge. 2021 is all about showing those glow-ups in your hot new outfits with the “Buss It” Challenge.
With a simple outfit change and some video editing, you can accomplish this challenge as you groove to the tunes of Erica Banks’ song “Buss It.” It took a while for the song to gain some traction when released in 2020, but now the challenge has made it so popular that many celebrities have already shared their likeness of the song by recreating or reimagining the TikTok.
Looking to hop on to the trend? Here’s what is it all about
Recreating the “Buss It” Challenge requires recording two videos. Once while wearing your good ol’ quarantine clothes; your favorite comfy grey sweatpants or some loungewear along the same lines. Then another video, while donning your best party clothes, all dressed out, the complete makeover, don’t forget make-up and hair! Afterward, you start the video by dancing to a sample of Nelly’s “Hot in Herre” in your regular clothes, but as soon as the music says, “I think my butt gettin’ big,” you drop down low, and transition into your dolled-up look, twerking to the song “Buss It” by Erica Banks, surprising the viewer with your breathtaking looks!
The song “Buss It”
The song is not new by any means. Erica Banks’ song, used in the challenge, was recorded in December 2019 and released in June 2020. In August 2020, it charted No. 38 on the R&B Hip-Hop Airplay chart. Buss It” got 1.7 million U.S. streams in the week of Jan. 1-7
Who started it?
It is unclear who started the trend. But @erikadavila120, on January 1, 2021, danced to the song’s tunes, she dropped down but transitioned without any outfit changes. She, however, asked her followers to do so by captioning the video: “Someone plz do this transition but all prettied up omg plzzz.”
But who actually made the TikTok Track with Nellie and Banks’ songs cut together remains a mystery. Later on, on January 3 when a few followers did create the TikTok Erica Davila asked for, she too recreated the transition all dolled up.
Famous #BusItChallenge Participants
Besides, there are several TikTokers who have recreated the challenge including OG TikToker Bella Poarch, social media star Rylee Isaac, Charlie D’Amelio, and James Charles. All of whom have gained millions of views and likes thanks to this challenge. Artists including Monica, Rico Nasty, and DaniLeigh did the “Buss It” challenge, which Erica Banks even reposted on her Instagram account.
The lack of any major dance movements, unlike previous challenges on the platforms, makes it all the more doable! So go to your closet, find the outfits, and give it a go!
