Nowadays, you’d find Instagram profiles with highlight story covers. While some are basic, others could be well-designed and appealing to simply look at it, where you don’t necessarily have to watch the story itself to understand the content. Usually, the categories include food, travel, clothes, fashion, even initials could be one. For instance, Blac Chyna customized it where each highlight cover is an alphabet letter which ends up spelling out her name. Basically, you can be as creative as you want with highlight cover stories.
A way to create interesting covers is by downloading the app, Canva. According to Alexandra, writer for Preview, use “Canva.” Canva is a (super easy) design tool. You can use it on your computer or on your phone. It’s going to make your life so much easier. It’s important to know that “the computer version doesn’t have templates for Insta Stories. But you can still do it on your computer if you want to. If you are using your computer, select “Custom Dimension” and your Insta Story dimension.
Here are some examples:

Now that you’ve seen some examples of how to style your cover story, when using Cava, follow these five steps so that you can enhance your Instagram feed.
Click “Your Story”
Open the app. Select “Your Story” and this will open up a number of templates for you to choose from.
Choose a background color
Once you get there, choose a background color. Keep in mind the aesthetic of your feed. Don’t choose a purple background if the rest of your Instagram is a totally different theme color. But hey, you might be able to pull it off. But to be on the safe side, try not to do it. This type includes pressing“+” if you want to choose your own color or you can also type your own color code (great if you want to stick to your brand or Instagram theme colors).”
Add an icon
For this type, you should follow Alexandra’s steps:
- Select the “+” button on the bottom right corner of your screen
2. Select “Graphics”
3. You can scroll to discover all the graphics they have, or you can search for a specific icon (example: “heart”)
4. Press on the icon you want to use for your cover
5. Choose the color of your icon
Add Pages
To add pages, you’d need to click “+” again, but this time, select Pages. From here, you can design another cover with another icon.
Save it!
You’re done! To save it, click the option that says “share,” then select “quick look” (iPhone) or “Upload to Photos” (Android). Afterwards, press the export icon, then finally select “save image.”
Cover Stories do not make or break your Instagram, rather it adds another dimension to your creativity. While indoors, decide whether your Instagram needs an upgrade or not. If it does, “Canva” is a step in the right direction to change that dilemma.
