A plethora of recipes, tutorials, and cookbooks are conveniently placed at our fingertips with the simple click of a button. Cookbooks and cooking shows were originally our virtual gateway into the culinary world. But, social media has made accessing the same material instantaneous. And, this has allowed beginners, amateurs, and world-renown chefs to capture attention from all over the world, inspiring collaboration and creativity from fans.
SocialMediaToday highlighted a point made from the psychology of taking and posting pictures of our food.
TikTok in particular is changing the way social media users view cooking. Chefs break down long and tedious recipes into one-minute videos. They do this by capturing snippets of each step so that the viewer can see how the meal progresses. Then, they add voice-overs and music to piece the whole thing together. What used to take an entire episode of a cooking show is now condensed into a 1 minute TikTok reel.
Here are a few standout creators from the cooking side of TikTok:
Tabitha Brown became a food influencer after establishing this Tik Tok account of homemade vegan recipes. Her presence on social media is warm, nurturing, and inspiring. She has accumulated about 5 million followers who are drawn to her compassion and intuitive eating. She wrote her own book called “Feeding the Soul” where she explains her battle with chronic autoimmune pain, how she overcame it, and the wisdom she developed.
There’s just something special about the lighting in this chef’s videos. @Themoodyfoodie’s TikToks resemble something of an ASMR special for cooking. All the shots portray the foods he uses with vibrant colors. Every cut is sharp, detailed, and makes the end result look delicious. He cooks a variety of cuisines, many seemingly rich and filling. He does so in a relaxing and satisfying way that keeps his followers coming back for more moody foody.
Set in the wilderness, @menwiththepot uses wood straight from the source as supply for most of his cooking videos. This is, again, a perfect example of how cooking has merged with ASMR to create relaxing and mouth-watering videos.
Cooking on social media is an evolving presence that is continually growing. And, TikTok has allowed different kinds of interactive cooking videos to grow an online presence. Creators have more freedom to appeal to younger generations with fast-paced visual content and do so in niches that appeal to different kinds of foodies.
