Bright was not always a content creator. She was a financial consultant, but she gave that up when she gained a decent amount of following. After a year she grew more and began working with brands. She was embarrassed because the industry then was not what it is today.
Strategy
Bright stresses that she did not have a strategy. She was being herself and that is what made people gravitate towards her. Often times we feel the need to do more or be more, but that is not always the case. Bright is a prime example of this. She was relatable to other people. She believes that is what made her stand out, the fact that others felt so close to her without knowing her. Bright suggests that when looking for a niche, think of something that interests you. What are you obsessed with? What is something you can see yourself doing for free? The first thought that popped into your head just now is your niche! Do not deny it.
How To Stand Out Above The Rest
Bright has two tips for standing out. The first is to have a unique, one-of-a-kind style. Originality is everything; when you are different people notice you because you intrigue them. You are doing something that has never been done before. Secondly, to be consistent. You cannot post one week, and then disappear from the face of the earth the following week. You will lose followers and subscribers rather than gain. People want to see you. They want to know that you are committed and that you care.
Beauty Creators This Is For You
Bright has three tips for beauty content creators, and the first is transparency. Transparency is key! Avoid putting filters and effects on yourself. Show how your face full of makeup really looks. The second is to be authentic. If you do not like a brand or their products, voice that. Be honest with your audience, they are relying on you to tell them the truth, so do not disappoint them. And, lastly, be up to date with the newest makeup trends and products. You can’t be late. You have a lot of competitors so stay on your A-game.
Posting Real-Life Substance
When asked how she balances her life on social media, Bright said, “Honestly I don’t have any regrets with some of the things that I’ve shared online. When I shared certain personal stories, I know that it was helpful to someone so, for me, that outweighs the embarrassment that I may feel about what I’ve put out.” Sometimes posting real substance is needed. It reminds people that you are human and that you go through terrible things just like the rest of the world. It is valuable, your audiences and viewers appreciate things like that.
How To Deal With Negativity
There’s always going to be someone who disagrees with you. You cannot please everyone and that is ok. You can choose to ignore it or let it get the best of you. But keep in mind that no one is worth your time or energy. Bright advises that she blocks and mutes certain comments and users. Do not allow that kind or any type of negativity on your platform.
Being A Content Creator and A Mom
We all have responsibilities, whether it is your children, your pet, your family, etc. We are all committed and responsible for something. You must learn to live with it, make space and time for them. Bright says, “I’m gonna be honest with you, being a mum, a wife – I’ve got two kids – is difficult and I’m not going to pretend that it’s, you know, all roses and fantastic. It definitely has its difficulties.” It is indeed hard, but not impossible, to manage and balance both. With a little patience and diligence, you’ll be successful.
Multiple Streams of Income
It is important to have a plan B. You cannot rely on just one form of income. Bad things happen and you have to be prepared. For instance, the Covid-19 pandemic was obviously a shock. So many people lost their money, their homes, their cars, and more. Now more than ever you should be looking for ways to diversify your income streams. Bright says she came up with some products that her audience loved and that became a promising source for her.
The interview ends with Patricia stating her three most important tips. Which is that this industry is all about perseverance over talent. Stay on top by being consistent and showing up. Be yourself don’t change because you are enough. There is no one else in the world like you so own it. And lastly, be patient. All good things come in due time. Do not rush it.
