Like Tiktok, Instagram added a relatively new feature to their platform: Reels. If you are familiar with TikTok, then you’d know that Reels is a new way to make short, entertaining videos. Now: how do you go viral? Well, let’s find out together.
Before we do that, I applaud those who make Reels videos. But this is also not to say people that don’t make videos can’t do it. We all can. Trust me, I’d rather dance in front of the mirror by myself than record a 10-second video. But if you have the time and confidence, by all means, go for it.
Step 1: Use Trendy Songs
This is pretty self-explanatory. There are so many “trendy” songs, usually old music, that you can use in your reels, such as Booty Wurk by T-Pain (old song), Bundles by Kayla Nicole and Taylor Girlz, and the list goes on. Also: decide if you’d want to move to a fast song or a slow song. For example, you could include the song Heartbreak Anniversary by Giveon.
Step 2: Create a Series
All this means is that people would have the opportunity to binge watch your videos, so your reels can get noticed!
Step 3: Face Should Be Visible
Really? Don’t hide from the camera. Show your face! This makes your reels stand out.
Step 4: Add a Hook
Rebecca Smart Bakkan made a valid point: “The hook refers to the part of your reels that will spark interest in viewers, where you’ve done or said something that looks/sounds shocking or exciting, etc. As people scroll endlessly through hundreds of videos per day, you need to start your videos with something to hook people in. They need to know within a couple of seconds if a video is interesting/exciting/shocking enough for them to spend more time watching the whole thing.”
Step 5: Content Pillars
Content Pillars is what your topic will be and choose at least three or free. Basically, know what you’re consistently going to post about. This helps keep your reels organized.
Step 6: Show Your Personality
Again, this is pretty straight-forward, and I don’t mean that in a harsh way. The video is your reel after all, so it’s important to one, know your audience, and two, decide on how you want to represent yourself to audience. Do you want to appear happy? Or do you want to appear serious?
Step 7: Finally, show movement!
What I’ve seen most content creators do is they’d either use their fingers, face, full-body, but or even the pretty boy smirk and slight tilt of the head. It’s very weird, at least in my opinion. But it’s really up to you. Just be confident and go for it. I might find joy in making these reels, too.
